Smack in the middle between Bolton and Rochdale sits Bury, a former textile town which was prominent during the industrial revolution; it also had coal mining and engineering works making it one of the strong locations for growth in England and Lancashire. As with many of the towns which saw production of textiles move and mines shutting, Bury has been on a bit of a journey of rediscovery and today, finds itself ideally positioned to be a key commuter destination for people working in Manchester, Halifax and even Leeds.
It’s not surprising that so many choose to move to Bury. It has great motorway links with the M62, M66 and M60 all on its doorstep making it ideal for those who travel extensively whilst the railway line and direct tram line to Manchester make it desirable for commuters.
Of course there is more than just former textiles and good motorway links making Bury so desirable.
There are lots of beautiful open spaces, parkways and walks, making it green and accessible. There are parks like Burrs Country Park, Irwell Sculpture Trail and a stunning circular 18 mile trail that takes walkers through some of the borough’s prettiest countryside and hidden away corners.
But no one can go to Bury without visiting the world famous market and sampling some of the best produce made by local producers and farmers in the area.
